You may not think of science as the most exciting part of your life, but when you plan a trip to The Science Center in Carbondale, Illinois, you will see just how exciting it can be. This center is one of the best places in the area for kids and adults alike to learn about science. If you’ve not been there yet, it’s certainly something you are going to want to check out as soon as possible. With so much to do there, it’s easy to see why it’s a local hot spot for learning and having fun. Take a look at some of what you can do when you visit.

The Basics

If you are wondering when you should visit The Science Center, you should check when it’s open. It’s open from Tuesday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it stays open an hour later on Friday and Saturday. Want to visit on a Sunday? No problem. Just go sometime between noon and 5 p.m. Unfortunately, The Science Center isn’t open on Monday, so don’t plan your trip then!

Admission costs just $5 per person, which means you can easily take the whole family without breaking your budget for the week. If you’re bringing a child who is 2 years of age or younger, they can get in for free. There are also military and senior citizen discounts, so be sure to ask about those if you think you might qualify! You can also get a membership for $75 per year. If you think you might be visiting the center a lot, this may just be the way to go.

Exhibits

There are so many different exhibits to check out at The Science Center, and you are going to want to budget enough time to see them all. For example, you’ll want to see the new enclosure for the resident red iguana named Reptar. He’s pretty cute, and you’ll love seeing his new home. Be sure to take the kids to the Bucky Dome Climber. This geodesic dome is a lot of fun for the little ones, and they may just want to climb all day. Don’t forget about Kinetic Jim, which is a 10-foot kinetic structure that will teach you all about energy. The vertical ball maze and the Excavation Station are always big hits as well!
